Types of Communities
Retirement Living Communities Fall into
Five Broad Categories:
Independent Retirement — Communities
that are multi-unit facilities (an average of 120 units) that provide
independent, apartment-style living with amenities such as meals, transportation
and activities included in a monthly fee. Other services such as daily
housekeeping, medication, and other services are typically available for
an additional fee.
Assisted Living — Communities that
provide living facilities in conjunction with assistance with medications
and daily activities such as bathing, dressing and escort services.
Residential Board & Care (also known as
Personal-Care Homes) — A single-family home converted to
community living with six-to-eight units that offer meals and activities.
These facilities are usually licensed to provide assistance with medication.
Alzheimer’s/Dementia Care —
Communities that are specifically licensed to provide the care and security
for individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, other forms
of dementia, memory disorders, or other cognitive dysfunction.
Skilled Nursing Care — Communities
that provide skilled-nursing, medical and pharmacy services for individuals
requiring round-the-clock supervision and care.
Some communities offer a comprehensive menu of services—for
example, assisted living and skilled nursing in one location—while
others are targeting toward specific needs. For example, one community
may offer independent living only, while another may offer only skilled
nursing.
It is our specialty to assist you in finding the community that permits
you to age in place—that is, where all of your needs will
be met as those needs change. Our comprehensive database contains a profile
of nearly every independent living community in southern California. This
resource enables Savvy Senior Lifestyles to match your preferences with
the appropriate community.
